My Daily Reflection Entry

Today in class we finished off the last presentation today.  One of the presentation that I actually liked today was Kenya because it was so many things that I did not know was really going on inside the country and it was interesting to hear the facts given today.  One of the interesting facts that was said was that most of Africa is identified as being a poor continent and how Kenyan people build their houses.  The crazy part about that is they build their houses to adapt and live through rough and harsh weather conditions.  Some of the class also got the opportunity to read over their essays that we had to compose on Friday and I felt really confident when I finished writing it because I took the thing that was taught and put the knowledge that I learned into the essay.  I was really satisfied with score and the grade I received with that information.  And also to we wrote down some vocabulary words and answered the exercises that followed to keep us from getting out of control and off topic.

In class today we finished going over the PowerPoint presentations.  Many of the students that went today were very intriguing to watch present.  On of the countries that was presented today was the Netherlands.  Although I didn’t know where many of these countries were located before they were presented I had questions for because it was really interesting to them actually speak to you without wading from their presentation and actually talk to them.

In class today it main focus was to present presentations today.  Of course we did not finish presenting the whole class because of how many students are in the class but about seven or eight people presented.  Okay so I was one of the ones who presented and I think I did well.  Although I couldn’t pronounce or even say some of the words,  I think I presented and explained my project well.  The research for the project was a little bit difficult because they were some many other country ones that had the same customs and traditions the same.  Everybody who presented today taught me something and very different because if they hadn’t did their projects mostly the information that I received wouldn’t have even been in my knowledge.

In class today we wrote a five paragraph essay and it was kinda of easy because of the information we had received prior before we took it.  We only had to write about the individuality and nationality and explain the two.  After that we just had the rest of the block to chill.

Today in class we got our paragraph back from yesterday but we got another person for the concept we were doing.  We as a read their paragraph to look for their claims and evidence. If the claim wasn’t good it was put into the shame category and if it was good it was put into the fame category.  But the concept was to see if we understand how to answer the prompt with a good claim and evidence that could be backed and explained.

In class today we were put into groups based on our countries that we were assigned for our projects. The group I was put into was Asia because my country was Japan and I really found some interesting information about the country that I have for my project.  So today in class we found six interesting customs from our country and we have to compare and contrast the different customs with the other countries in our groups.  One of my interesting facts that I have learned from Japan was that the number four is avoided to say because it sound familiar to death when spoken in their fluent language.  We also were given a prompt to answer based on the information that we retained today to help us answer it.

In class today we took a quiz to help us better understand how to answer multiple choice question.  We also took notes in the elements of culture.  We took notes on seven of the different cultural Ian and we went over them and gave examples to better explain what the elements are.

Today in class we got another practice prompt to help us get the resources and ideas we need to answer essay prompt.  So in class we got a prompt about should a man must be nurturing to his mother. I agreed because I feel a man learns how to treat a mother if he has been raised be a motherly and compassionate mother.  We read two poems one called “Son to Mother” and “Mother to Son”. These poem were a way to help us write about the prompt and we were breaking down the poems so we could better understand them.  Breaking down the poems actually helped with the claims because it helped you understand and it made it feel like the poem was actually talking about a mother to son relationship or mother to daughter relationship can and should be.

In class we were given a new prompt and essay example today.  This consist of how many people view humorists (such as comedians or entertainers).  So we watch a couple of videos to help with our claims and what the meaning of each video was really about and how society took what was said.  One of the video made we watched today was about racism.  It was about how when people go to nail shops and how the nail technician (Chinese women) was basically scheming the customer by adding on what she thought would look good on the customer hand but in reality she was just adding on the customer tip. So when the customer made an complaint about the one nail that was crooked, the nail technician started talking her in Chinese.  The point of this story is that is was told by a comedian who mocked the Chinese speaking nail technician.  After all the videos we watched I still did not understand how to really write the claims we had to give after watching the videos. The claims I had given I personally think that they were wrong but I did not get them checked so I would not really know.

In class today we talked about the history of the ‘N’ word.  Since it’s black history month we were taught about how it was originated and what is the dilatation behind the word.  We got the learn many different definitions and meaning that we did or did not know about.  There were many different meanings that I have never heard about being connected to the word.  The word can be offensive in many different ways that it’s being used.

In class today we only had about six students due to the fact that they were in a ACT Class the whole block. We still kept class going and yesterday we got a new essay prompt. We took notes from the prompt and we broke down the quote that was given by looking up some words from the quote that we did not know or understand it meaning in the quote.  We have examples as individuals to some of the words.
